Background
The Fellowship for Building Leadership in Atmospheric Environment and Air Quality Management in East Asia is a program organized by the Network Center for the EANET in collaboration with Fudan University, in Shanghai, China, and Clean Air Asia.
Aligned with the 2024, 2025, and 2026 Work Programme and Budget of EANET, the Fellowship Program aims to enhance leadership in the atmospheric environment and air quality management.
The Fellowship for Building Leadership in Atmospheric Environment and Air Quality Management in East Asia program has been approved first during the Twenty-fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG25) and later further approved for continuation during the IG26 and IG27 on the EANET, as a Project Activity, co-funded by the EANET Project Fund and Fudan University, and with in-kind support from Clean Air Asia.

Timeline
Open to participants from the 13 EANET Participating Countries (in consultation with their respective National Focal Points), the fellows are expected to stay and work on their research theme at Fudan University, Shanghai, China, and at the NC for the EANET, Niigata, Japan, respectively. The on-site program takes place over a total period of approximately one and a half months, with about two weeks in China and about four weeks in Japan during July–August 2026.

Objective
The program encourages research on topics within the EANET’s scope, and in line with the Medium-Term Plan for the EANET (2026-2030) as follows:

Advanced monitoring data analysis

PM and ozone sources identification, including VOCs

Nitrogen deposition and nitrogen management

Co-benefit of air pollution and climate

other relevant topics

Nomination and Selection Process
The National Focal Points (NFPs) from the EANET Participating Countries are requested to nominate one or more relevant candidates to apply for the fellowship program in 2026, and inform the Network Center (NC) for the EANET by email.
